The Battle of Worcester Society is an historical society. A registered charity, we are dedicated to promoting and protecting the fascinating heritage surrounding the Battle of Worcester, one of the most significant events in English history. The Society exists neither as a reenactment society nor solely as an academic one but believes both are integral part of preserving the heritage surrounding the Battle of Worcester in particular as well as the English Civil war in general. We are run entirely by volunteers and rely solely on donations and membership subscriptions to fund our extensive work.
- Furthering the charitable purposes of the Battle of Worcester Society;
- Promoting conservation and development of the facilities that are available to the public;
- Appointing representatives and delegates to any other bodies with whom the Battle of Worcester Society may be concerned;
- Engaging in, supporting and co-ordinating research: the publishing, education and advertising of the useful results of any such research;
- Raising funds by inviting and receiving contributions, be they public or private, by way of subscription, donation or otherwise.
Our members and supporters include Members of Parliament, Members of the House of Lords and civic and business leaders. Some of our past projects have included campaigning successfully for improvements to Fort Royal Park, a series of academic lectures, anniversary dinners, memorial services, member visits to historic sites, education programmes, Living History events, assisting in the organising re-enactments and much more.
One of our successes as a society was the raising of substantial funds to see a superb plaque placed onto the Fort Royal Hill. It was unveiled in 2013 by Lord Faulkner of Worcester and the Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Pat Agar. The plaque depicts scenes of the battle as they might have been seen from Fort Royal Hill. It is a fine example of the society’s ability to deliver ambitious and lasting projects that have a definite impact on the city and heritage preservation. In 2021, the Society commemorated the 370th anniversary of the Battle of Worcester and hosted a number of events.
We are governed by a Board of Trustees which oversees the strategy and vision of the society and whose members are legally responsible for ensuring the society’s proper running.
