Sir Edward Massey,
Sir Edward Massey was a formidable commander of the English Civil War, renowned for his resolute defence of Gloucester against King Charles I in 1643. A leading Parliamentarian general who later changed allegiance after the king’s execution, he was wounded at Worcester and went on to serve in Parliament following the Restoration. His shifting loyalties reflect the turbulent drama of a nation at war.
