First ever Stuart History Festival coming to Worcester

27/06/2025

The trials and turmoil of the Stuart Age will be brought to life in a new festival in the heart of Worcester.

The Stuart History Festival will take place at the Old Palace in Worcester on July 5 and 6, described by organisers as a first for both the city and the country.

The festival will be both in-person and live-streamed, focusing exclusively on the ‘dramatic and often overlooked Stuart period’ (1603–1714), a century that revolutionised the British Isles politically, religiously, and culturally.

Sponsored by the Battle of Worcester Society and Orland Media, the festival, which will be launched by the Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Matt Lamb, brings together 10 expert historians to explore the lives, conflicts, and ideas that shaped the turbulent era.

From the accession of James I to the Glorious Revolution, the Stuart age encompassed the union of crowns, civil war, regicide, republic, restoration, and revolution, a cycle that forged the modern British state.
