Jon Fraser’s Departure Raises Concerns for Powick Old Bridge Repairs

October 16, 2024

The unexpected departure of Jon Fraser, a key figure in the repair of Powick Old Bridge, has raised concerns about the project’s future. Fraser, an experienced highways chief, left Worcestershire County Council just days before a crucial meeting regarding the bridge’s restoration.

His departure is particularly concerning given the bridge’s historical significance and the ongoing repair efforts to address a partial collapse. Local officials and heritage groups have expressed concerns about potential delays and disruptions to the project due to Fraser’s absence.

Worcestershire County Council has not yet provided a comment on Fraser’s departure or its impact on the bridge repair. However, the council has confirmed that around 140 employees, including Fraser, were offered new contracts with reduced working hours.

The bridge, a Grade I listed structure, is a vital part of Worcester’s Civil War heritage. Repairs are currently underway to restore the damaged section and ensure the bridge’s continued use.
