Proposals for £50k Battle of Worcester sculpture

03/05/2024

Worcester City Council is deliberating on how to utilize £5 million in government levelling-up funding. Among the proposed projects is the creation of a new national monument to commemorate the Battle of Worcester, designed by Ken Potts, known for his work on the Elgar Statue. This steel sculpture is slated for Sidbury and is estimated to cost £50,000.

Additionally, the council is considering several other projects aimed at enhancing cultural spaces and community engagement. These include refurbishing the Gheluvelt Park bandstand, creating a sustainable events venue at Pitchcroft, and investing in mobile music vehicles and portable outdoor stages for community festivals.

The proposed projects align with Worcester’s City Plan and are intended to support educational experiences, community arts, and outdoor performances. The council aims to finalize these plans by the given deadline, ensuring that the funding is allocated for cultural projects by March 2026.
