In 2014 I saw a series of documentaries on the BBC called Voices of the Great War. I was so enamoured with the stories told on these programmes that over a few quiet days that summer, I watched all the documentaries and wrote down every word the partakers said. The programme was split into several sections, so I had to go back and forth to write down their testaments. Following this, I was inspired to write their experiences down in verse and after that put those words into a Power Point presentation. The first time I put this before an audience was 10th November, 2018 in the Studio at the Hive. The 2023/2024 non-civil war talks have a Worcestershire theme, so I am adding information to that presentation on Vesta Tilley, Woodbine Willie and Fred Dancox to meet the brief.
