Richard Carter graduated in history from Cambridge in 1975 and more recently (2023) completed an MA in Church History at Nottingham University, for which he wrote his dissertation on Gauden and Baxter. Richard’s talk explores the role of those two Worcestershire clergymen, in the heated debates during the Commonwealth, involving politicians and churchmen, about whether or how bishops, who had been abolished in 1646, should be restored and in what form.
